What is Genre?

To put it simply the term comes from the French word.

In media it is theoretical for classification.

Comedy:

a film that has a range of punch lines with a range of characters that work with the punch lines.

Romance:

two characters that start off not knowing one another and then coming together.

Horrer:

this contains all the running and screaming and villains that are seen in all horror films.

There are also hybrid films that have two or more genres in them. For example Doctor Strange has Action | Adventure | Fantasy | Sci-Fi as its genres..
